I had no emails going out when forum posts were made, so it was taking me a few days to respond to posts. So I set up emails to go out to the Topic creator anytime a post is created in that thread. Also if someone replies directly to a post you made, you will get an email telling you so with a link to the thread.
I hope this isn't too intrusive... if you don't like getting emails, you can go to your dashboard and click on the button "Receiving Forum Alerts", which will then turn red and you will no longer receive emails from the forums (you can always turn it back on).
